During their first weeks, calves thrive best in individual mobile calf housing. A young calf has not yet gained much immunity at this stage in its life, which makes it susceptible to infections, disturbances of the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory infections. The best way to counter this is proper nutrition and an optimal climate for the calf. The latter requires a draught free, dry and sufficiently warm (in winter) or cool (in summer) enclosure. Shade temperature and ventilation are essential, for example.
